A New & Unique Boot
For a while there were not many new boots on the market. Suddenly we had Roxa, K2, and Kastle joining the Alpine Boot world.
Now we can add Phaenom to the mix.
Roxa uses lightweight materials and 3D printing–very modern. Kastle uses the best and most advanced Polyurethanes for performance. K2 does a bit of everything and adds some color and flair. Phaenom is unique too.
Phaenom seems to have locked themselves in a room with a bunch of new age engineers until they had a worthwhile and totally unique product. Most brands have other boots on the market that are similar to their boots with subtle differences. Phaenom has broken the mold (pun intended).
Phaenom uses a hybrid technology that has elements of both “two-piece” and “three-piece” design included. You get some of the features of both in a clever way: the wrap and close fit of a two-piece boot, and the progressive flex pattern of a three-piece, or “cabrio,” boot.
Other Phaenom features include:
- The shell is adjustable for forward lean to three settings.
- The materials of the liner and shell use as much recycled material as is possible.
- The fit and finish on both the shell and liner is superb which (based on other products) seems to be difficult using recycled materials.
- The liner has optional laces for a tight fit and a rubber treaded sole that will absorb shock and allow you to walk around in the liner alone.
- Every piece of the boot is meant to come apart. Instead of rivets, it uses threaded hardware throughout. Excellent news for boot fitters!
- Both shell and liner are designed for custom fitting.
- They offer both “walk mode” boots with tech fittings for ski touring and Alpine freeride boots for the resorts.
- The boots are all black to aid in recycling.
- Every plastic, pad, strap or buckle is meant to be easy to recycle.
- There is a very unique rubber top strap that is integral to the way the boot flexes.
- They currently come in a 102mm last only, which is on the roomier side of things.
These features and benefits are not all unique. Some of them are though, and nobody has combined them all in one boot.
